John Randolph Torbet

John Randolph Torbet, our founder and senior partner, was admitted to the bar in 1968 and has since established himself as a leader among the Colorado Springs legal community in effectively advocating for the rights of his clients. During his over forty years of practice, Mr. Torbet's has earned a reputation in Colorado Springs as a knowledgeable, honest and fair-minded attorney who tirelessly works to restore honor to an often maligned profession. The Colorado Trial Lawyers Association described Mr. Torbet as "someone who speaks up for the average person" reporting that during his many years as a lawyer, "Torbet has represented a lot of those average people" in cases as varied as "everything from teenagers' traffic tickets to multi-million dollar real estate transactions."
Mr. Torbet was born in New River, North Carolina in 1943. He attended the New Mexico Military Institute and graduated from the University of Colorado in 1965, earning a bachelor of arts. Mr. Torbet attended law school at the University of Colorado School of Law, graduating in 1968. After graduating from law school, Mr. Torbet joined and became a senior partner at Evans, Peterson, Torbet & Briggs. During his time at Evans Peterson, Torbet & Briggs, Mr. Torbet taught police science at what is now Pikes Peak Community College. In 1972 Mr. Torbet was appointed as Municipal Judge in the City of Fountain, Colorado where he currently holds that position. An expert in the area of bankruptcy, Mr. Torbet periodically instructs other lawyers on the United States Bankruptcy Code at continuing legal education seminars.
Mr. Torbet was admitted to the Colorado State Bar in 1968, the United States District Court, District of Colorado in1968, the United States Court of Appeals 10th Circuit in 1971, and the United States Supreme Court in1972. Mr. Torbet is a member of the El Paso County and Colorado Bar Associations, and the Colorado Municipal Judges Association where he served as President from1980 to 1981.
Mr. Torbet is married with two children, two step children and four grandchildren. Mr. Torbet is an avid bicyclist, tennis player and finisher of six marathons.
